Killby & Gayford values its employees and for that reason invests significantly in their training and career development.
Our culture of supporting learning starts right at the beginning with Company Induction.
We run a full range of courses as part of our Health, Safety and Environment Training together with our five day Site Operations Training Course.
All our employees have an opportunity to discuss their training needs with their Line-Manager. Each individual’s training needs are analysed annually as part of our Appraisal process.
Our Apprenticeship scheme is sponsored by ConstructionSkills, with the aim of encouraging the development of construction skills as bench joiners to NVQ Level 3. Our Billericay joinery factory takes on a number of new apprentices every year. Mentoring and practical training is provided to each apprentice by a master joiner. Candidates are also encouraged to attend the Building Crafts College on block release. Killby & Gayford have an excellent record of achievement in the National Joiners & Ceilers Awards held annually by the Worshipful Company of Joiners & Ceilers.
Due to our long established links with Oxford Brookes and Anglia Ruskin Universities our Student Development Programme and “year out” placements are available to undergraduate students, who are studying a construction related degree. Undergraduate trainees are often based on-site under the supervision of a qualified construction professional. The success of this programme is marked by our high level of subsequent employment of graduate Management Trainees.
Management Training includes IT skills as well as technical, legal and financial updates and plenty of practical experience in various parts of our business.
We also sponsor CIOB development courses to assist technical staff in achieving professional membership to the Chartered Institute of Building. Other relevant professional qualifications are also supported.
Our Competency Framework further endorses our encouragement of employees to pursue their goals and it provides a clear and consistent path through the business from entry level through to Directorship. We are proud of the fact that two of our current Directors started their careers at Killby & Gayford as school leavers.
Our Leadership Programme embraces an up to date approach to applying collaborative business skills and strategy in a value driven direction that motivates and continuously improves performance.
