Central Hall Westminster
Aims
Killby & Gayford was appointed to refurbish this London landmark in July 2004. The project aims to:
- Refurbish the Great Hall including the installation of a rising stage.
- Replace the ageing heating system.
- Demolish an existing staircase to form a twin lift shaft to improve access and comply with DDA regulations.
- Refurbish the administration offices and function rooms.

Timeline

12th April 2006
- Final completion of the Great Hall
- Refurbishment of the adminsitrative offices and function rooms
- Upgraded services and DDA compliance

16th June 2005
- Installation of New sound Desk made by the K&G Joinery factory to control all speakers in the Great Hall
- Laying of new carpet to the Great Hall and several corridors.
- New disabled ramp built
- Sanding and sealing of new stage and infilling non-slip patches
- All works to the Great Hall had to be completed in time for a concert held for the Queen

17th May 2005
- Commencement of marble and stone cleaning programme.
- Ongoing installation and commissioning of new stage.
- Continuation of door refurbishment and heating upgrade works.
- Commencement of decoration works to Crush Hall.

16th March 2005
- Installation of rising stage in the Great Hall
- Replacement of exisiting balustrade in the Great Hall.
- Commencement of decoration packages to rear corridors.

16th February 2005
- Demonstration of new rising stage
- Continuation of door refurbishment and heating upgrade works.

22nd December 2004
- Demolition of south staircase to make way for new lifts.
- Continuation of door refurbishment and heating upgrade works.

16th November 2004
- Installation of temporary protection to Great Hall whilst parquet flooring removed to prepare for new stage.
- Start of door refurbishment programme to upgrade fire protection.
- Works to upgrade heating system commenced.

20th October 2004
- Completing rerouting of fire alarm system to begin demolitions.
- Great Hall scaffolding erected for air tight enclosure prior to demolition of stage area.
- Toilet refurbishment underway.
- Boiler room strip out underway after asbestos removal.

1st October 2004
- Scaffolding is being erected.
- Partitions formed to restrict public access to works.
- Temporary protection installed.
- Asbestos removal underway from basement.
- Boiler room stripped out.

2nd August 2004
- Project secured.
- Pre-contract logistical planning underway.
